**Definition:** Let $x = \left\lbrace x_1, \ldots, x_n \right\rbrace$ be a [statistical sample](/D/samp) from a [random variable](/D/rvar) or a set of [random variables](/D/rvar) $X$. Then, the number of elements $n$ in this sample is called the "sample size".
