Get the metadata for the location where the files of a channel are stored.
Note
Some special characters in the channel name will cause this API to return an error. For details, see Known issues.
[!INCLUDE national-cloud-support]
Choose the permission or permissions marked as least privileged for this API. Use a higher privileged permission or permissions only if your app requires it. For details about delegated and application permissions, see Permission types. To learn more about these permissions, see the permissions reference.
[!INCLUDE permissions-table]
Note
The Group.Read.All and Group.ReadWrite.All permissions are supported only for backward compatibility. We recommend that you update your solutions to use an alternative permission listed in the previous table and avoid using these permissions going forward.
GET /teams/{id}/channels/{id}/filesFolderThis method doesn't support the OData query parameters to customize the response.
| Header | Value |
|---|---|
| Authorization | Bearer {token}. Required. Learn more about authentication and authorization. |
Don't supply a request body for this method.
If successful, this method returns a 200 OK response code and a driveItem object in the response body.
Note
-
For private channels created before the move to group compliance as part of enhancements, a dedicated folder that matches the channel name may still exist. Any files uploaded before the enhancement remain in this folder.
-
After a private channel is migrated, the default file location changes to the root folder, and the
GET /teams/{team-id}/channels/{channel-id}/filesFolderAPI returns the root folder’sdriveItem. Newly created private channels (post‑migration) no longer create a dedicated folder. All files are stored in the root folder, and the API returns the root folder’sdriveItem.
For more details about private channel enhancements and migration, see New enhancements in private channels in Microsoft Teams.
