hello, My name is Prajyot Yadav, and I am a Bioengineering student. I am interested in participating in Google Summer of Code this year and contributing to your organization. I have experience with Python, data analysis, and bioinformatics tools. I am particularly interested in projects related to biological data analysis and open-source scientific software. I have been exploring the project ideas listed by your organization and would love to learn more about how I can start contributing. Could you please suggest beginner issues or resources that would help me understand the project better? Thank you for your time and guidance. Best regards, |

Hi malariagen maintainers (@jonbrenas ), My name is Khush Chaudhari. I’m a 2nd-year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student at Newton School of Technology (ADYPU) and a Full-Stack Developer. I’ve been actively contributing to MalariaGEN over the past few months and have successfully merged 12 issues in the malariagen-data-python repository so far! Working on the data analysis, caching, and testing infrastructure of the package has been an incredible learning experience, and I've really enjoyed collaborating with the team. I am officially planning to apply for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 with MalariaGEN. Given my deep familiarity with the malariagen-data-python codebase, I’m very interested in tackling some of the larger architectural or feature-based projects on the ideas list. I will be drafting my proposal over the coming weeks and would love to get some early feedback on which direction the core team feels is the highest priority. Looking forward to continuing my work with you all! Best, Khush |

Hi @jonbrenas @tristanpwdennis and the MalariaGEN team, My name is Y Subhash Srinivas Reddy, and I’m a CSE student. I’ve been exploring the MalariaGEN Vector Observatory and I’m really interested in the project: "Exploring natural-language interfaces to increase understanding of malaria vector genomic data" (the NLP/LLM one). I’ve gone through the malariagen-data-python repository, the Vector Observatory website, and the training resources. As mentioned in your guidelines, I want to make a small starter contribution first (documentation, test improvement, bugfix, or anything useful) to understand the architecture before drafting my proposal. Could you please suggest a beginner-friendly issue or task that I can pick up quickly? I’m ready to work on it and open a PR in the next 2–3 days. Looking forward to your guidance! Best regards, |

Hello everyone, There has been a lot of activity recently so I am not sure where to find a beginner-friendly issue but you are welcome to create a new one or to look at an existing PR and give your opinion and ask questions from the contributor to familiarise yourself with the code. |

Hi @jonbrenas @tristanpwdennis, I am Kushal, I'm currently a junior pursuing Information Technology, involved in AI for the past 3 years. I found the 2nd project to be very cool after reading and doing a little bit of research from my end. I am looking forward to contribute!
Any additional information, do's/dont's, or relevant information would be very helpful, Sir.
Thanks!
-Kushal.
